The EWPA trained operator course for boom lifts, the training course is designed to train applicants in the safe use of boom lifts. This training course provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to operate a boom lift, elevating work platform, which is not classified as requiring a high risk work (HRW) licence.

The EWPA Yellow card is a nationally recognised operator training program. Jack Australia maintains the training program in accordance with the Elevated Work Platform Association Of Australia (EWPAA).

This course can be combined with both the EWPA scissor lift at $350.00 combined price or the vertical lift and or knuckle boom training course for $400.00 combined price. Plus we also offer the EWP over 11 metre training course plus the EWPA scissor lift and knuckle boom lift training course package for $890.00.

Prerequisites:

The Training program has no pre-requisite units. However, EWPs require operators to have a thorough understanding of the risks associated with using them. This includes being able to read and understand technical information such as instructions for emergency lowering systems, wind speed ratings, variable rated capacity restrictions, operator’s manuals, risk assessments and logbook checklists.

Participants should be 18 years of age. Operating restrictions apply for those under 18 years of age.

Course Introduction:

The Knuckle boom lift licence training course covers the correct use and handling of knuckle booms including information about truck mounted, electric, and all-terrain diesel units.

A boom lift elevated work platform has the ability to telescope or rotate unlike  a scissor lift EWP that can only move the platform in a vertical direction. Knuckle boom lifts can be self propelled, trailer, or truck mounted. The Elevated Work Platform Associations Yellow card training program is designed to fill the void where there is no High Risk Work licence available.

Upon successful completion of the Yellow card training program recipients will be able to operate a knuckle boom lift up to 11 metres.

Course Outline

1. Plan and prepare for operating an elevating work platform

  • Access, interpret and apply elevating work platforms documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant.
  • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements.
  • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities.
  • Identify and select any required tools and equipment, check for serviceability and rectify or report, verbally or in writing, any faults prior to commencement.
  • Perform pre-start and post-start inspections/checks.
  • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity.
  • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures.
  • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency.

2. Conduct work activities from elevating work platform

  • Stabilise elevating work platform.
  • Place tools and equipment into bucket/platform.
  • Use approved safety devices, ensure safety of personnel and surrounding site.
  • Act on or report, verbally or in writing, monitoring systems and alarms.
  • Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations.
  • Complete work and shut-down in accordance with agreed work plan.

3. Carry out operator maintenance

  • Carry out work platform inspections and fault finding.
  • Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and site authorised procedures and practices.
  • Carry out minor operator maintenance to manufacturer’s instructions and site requirements.
  • Process written records.

4. Clean up

  • Clear work area and reuse, recycle or dispose of materials.
  • Check, clean, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge and skills required to operate EWP’s safely including:

  • Plan Operations: Hazard management and consultation.
  • Pre-operational Inspections: on each type of EWP class being conducted.
  • Operate: Lifting to varying heights and travelling through obstacles.
  • Conclude Operations: Parking, securing the equipment and following site specific procedures.
  • Operator Yellowcard with a photo, operator number, and completed EWP class.

Assessment Conditions

Elevating Work Platform Association conditions for assessment:

  • Applicants must be at least 14 years and 9 months of age.
  • Suitable clothing such as safety boots, long pants and high-vis shirt.
  • Able to produce sufficient identification with name and photo (ie drivers licence, passport etc).
  • Speak and understand English at a level to be able to participate in the training and assessment.

VOC Assessments

Course Code: VOC - Knuckle Boom Lift (BL)

Course Name: Verification of competency for - EWPA Trained Operator Card/Yellowcard

Course Cost: $200 per person. Minimum three people required to run this course.

Duration: 2 - 4 hours

Prerequisites:

  • Operators must hold a current EWPA Trained Operator Card for the Category they are being verified for.
  • Ability to read and write basic English.
  • Ability to pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN).
  • Provide two forms of identification.
  • May provide verified work documents, logbooks or other evidence of competency to support their evidence of experience.
  • All persons attending assessment must wear steel capped or safety boots; sun protection, hard hat, long sleeved shirt and pants are also recommended for this site.

VOC Outline

  • 2-4 hours for assessment depending on person’s ability, and class size
  • Use of plant and equipment at our premises.
  • Verbal and theoretical questions.
  • Visual observation and practical demonstration.

VOC Outcome

Workers successfully demonstrating competency will be provided with a photo ID Card stating the VOC attained.

Workers who are unable to demonstrate competency will receive written feedback regarding the elements of competency that were lacking, and the nature of the gap training required prior to re-assessment.

We suggest workers that fail to demonstrate successful knowledge of the competency to re-sit the VET course in question.

Cancellations

Fees

Jack Australia charges fees for providing training services to students who undertake training and assessment that leads to a nationally recognised outcome’s. These charges are generally for items such as course materials, text books, student services and training and assessment services.

Fees are payable when a student or employer has received a confirmation of enrolment. The full course payment must be made seven (7) days prior to commencing training. The current fees and charges for training are as per advertised.

Cancellation Of Enrolment

Cancellation of enrolment must be given either by phone or via email. The student may be advised of other options such as suspending the enrolment and re-commencing in another scheduled training program.

Students who give written notice to cancel their enrolment and who are eligible for a refund will receive their refund within 14 days.

Refunds

The following refund policy will apply:

  • Notice given to cancel course enrolment more than 7 days prior to the commencement of a training program, will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.
  • Any notice given to cancel an enrolment less than 7 days prior to the commencement of a training course will be entitled to a 50% refund of fees paid of full course fee payment. The 50% retained by Jack Australia is required to cover the cost of staff, resources, and lost revenue from potential students wanting to enrol/ attend the course.
  • Students who cancel their enrolment after a training program has commenced will not be entitled to a refund of any fees.
Charges

Jack Australia may levy some miscellaneous charges for services.

These may include:

  • Re-issuing a certificate after it has been initially issued to a student.
  • Replacing issued learning materials which the student has lost or damaged
  • Re-assessment services
Student complaints about fees or refunds

Students who are unhappy with Jack Australia’s arrangements for the collection and refunding of tuition fees are entitled to lodge a complaint.

Training Location

Our training location is in Sydney at Riverstone in North Western Sydney.

We are located within close proximity to Riverstone railway station, 1km walk to our training site from the train station. Or approximately 20-30 minutes drive from Parramatta, Blacktown, and Windsor or 5 minute drive from Rouse hill Town centre.

Please note that if you are using GPS, be sure type in Riverstone Parade, as there is a Riverstone Road near by. However, if using Google Maps, best to type in Riverstone Business Park, as this will be easily located.

Once you arrive, please advise the gate house keeper you are attending training at Jack Australia, he will direct you to our location.
